Best Ultra Slim Gaming Laptop USA 2022
We recently reviewed several AMD Ryzen 4000 laptops and here the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 GA502IU-ES76 is one of the best ultra-slim gaming laptops available so far eschewing this new AMD hardware. Read more about Best Ultra Slim Gaming Laptop 2022.
It’s certainly not as good or compact as the Asus Zephyrus G14, nor is it as powerful as the Asus TUF Gaming A15s, but it does have one big advantage over all other options: a very good quality screen, which is the main one. All those other AMD-powered laptops, at least for now.
The ROG Zephyrus G15 ultra-slim gaming laptop is a compact and lightweight laptop at just 4.6 pounds. Asus used brushed black metal to cover the lid, accented with black ROG branding, but the inner and bottom units are made of plastic.
It looks, it looks clean and professional, with the branding nibbled off and no annoying lights, to save the status LEDs and power buttons that are always on and positioned below the screen.
Build quality is fine, with minimal flex within the lid and chassis, with well-polished edges and corners. However, unlike other recently used laptops, the lid and interior are fingerprint magnets and pick-up shakes easily.
Most of the essential laptop ports are located on the left side, but in the middle, in such a way that they can accommodate the thermal layout on the back, and that means the power plugs and the LAN and HDMI cables They will get in your way. If you decide to use them.
On the right side, there are only USB slots and that leaves a part free for your mouse. This laptop doesn’t include Thunderbolt 3 or a card reader, but it does allow you to charge the available USB-C port, in case you need to bring your power supply.
It lacks a finger sensor or IR camera, it’s not a camera, like the entire Zephyrus line, but it does have some microphones under the screen. As a result, the screen gets little bezels around the side and top.
Keyboard and Touchpad
Information sources are a territory where this ultra-thin Zephyrus G15 gaming laptop forgets to achieve greatness.
The keyboard has a nice layout, with full-size chiclet keys, small arrows, and a column of extra functions on the right, as well as dedicated volume keys on the top left. Typing o This keyboard feels a bit shallow and impenetrable, in contrast to the top-tier Zephyrus model. Even the G14 stands out as a good typist, although the keyboard at first glance resembles the Zephyrus M/S model.
On this keyboard, you don’t have RGB lighting and you only get white LEDs. They’re pretty bright, and the writing on each key is easily visible in this black-and-white theme, but the light leaks out from under a funnel.
For the clickpad, it works with everyday use, but it’s just a little plastic surface with clunky clicks, so nothing to admire.
Asus offers the G15 ultra-slim gaming laptop with 2 display options, one with a 144hz refresh rate and poor brightness, colors, and time-lapse, and also the difference with 240hz hygiene refresh rate, the response of 3 ms and more than 300 NIT brightness, and Coverage 100% sRGB. The first option is the one we have in our review unit and it makes all the difference. Both variants are 15.6-inches in size, matte, and non-touch.
The panel is well calibrated out of the box, with 144Hz producing around 300nit brightness, but response time is slow and color coverage is very limited, only around 60% sRGB, which is Common in this price range. And TUF Gaming is also available on the A15.
Our ROG Zephyrus G15 review model is a mid-spec configuration with an AMD Ryzen 7 4800HS processor, 16GB of RAM, 1TB SSD storage, and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti graphics. As configured, the G15 isn’t just a high-performance laptop and can also handle everyday multitasking, browsing, and video while running quietly.
Featuring the mid-tier Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti Max-Q (with 6GB GDDR6), the Zephyrus G15 GA502IU-ES76 handles 1080p with no problem. Against its rivals, it plays to the upside of the Tomb Raider benchmark (soaring, 1080p) with 64 frames per second, against the much better Dell G5 15 SE (AMD Radon RX 5600M GPU) and MSI Alpha 15 (AMD). Radeon RX 5500M GPU), with a performance of 44 and 35 fps, individually.
In Grand Theft Auto V (Very High, 1080p), the G15 tops out at 77fps, which is much higher than the average 43fps range. Once again, it beats the competition: the Dell G5 15SE with just 56fps while the MSI Alpha only gets 41fps. However, in Hitman (Ultra, 1080p), the Dell G5 15SE takes the throne with 83 FPS, while the Legion 5 created 76 FPS, still above the 63 FPS range average.
If you’re wondering if the Asus Zephyrus G15 can handle VR gaming, the answer should be yes. Tested on the VRMark Cyan benchmark, which measures virtual reality performance, it hits 5246P, an average of around 2562 for a budget gaming laptop.
Coupled with another 76Wh battery and relatively efficient hardware inside this ROG Zephyrus G15, this laptop provides a good runtime on a single charge. You get about 7 hours on a single charge, editing documents, streaming on Netflix at 60% screen brightness, but it only falls short of 2 hours when playing modern games.
Our Rating | Excellent
The Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 GA502IU-ES76 is a capable 15-inch all-in-one laptop that performs at a great price in both gaming and performance.
- Excellent 144Hz display
- Solid performance
- 76 Wh battery, with USB-C charging
- Shallow keyboard
- Mostly plastic construction
With the ultra-slim Asus Zephyrus G15 gaming laptop, you’ll enjoy the overall good performance in productivity apps and games, a bright 144Hz display, a slim profile, and new components that you can’t beat at this price.
But it’s also impossible to ignore some of the drawbacks – the missing webcam and a thick keyboard – but you have to be aware of those issues and there’s no reason to buy. Everything else about this laptop is very good, and Asus offers different iterations of the same model if you need more power than our review unit offers.
If you’re looking for gaming precision or a machine that does it all with the basic designation of a laptop, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 GA502IU-ES76 ultra-slim gaming laptop is certainly a perfect price, in the right system. correct design.
